Chapter 1 SIGNATURE
The morning didn’t feel like a beginning.
It felt like a quiet ending.
💣
By tonight—
Ira would no longer belong to herself.
A knock broke the silence.
“Ira…”
Her mother’s voice was softer than usual.
Ira opened her eyes.
For a moment—
She didn’t move.
Then the knock came again.
She got up and opened the door.
Her mother stood there—
Trying to stay composed.
“They’re here.”
Just two words.
But her eyes said everything else.
“For the contract…”
A tear slipped before she could stop it.
Ira watched her for a second.
Then stepped forward and hugged her.
“It’s okay.”
Her voice was calm.
Too calm.
Like she had already accepted something no one else could.
A While Later
The room smelled of perfume and silence.
Ira stood in front of the mirror.
Black bodycon dress—
Perfect fit.
No softness.
A thin golden chain rested on her waist—
A tiny butterfly hanging from it.
Fragile.
Unlike her.
Her fingers brushed it lightly.
Then dropped.
Because today—
Nothing needed to look better.
Downstairs
The house was too quiet.
Not empty—
Full of people.
Waiting.
The sound of her heels echoed through the hall.
Step.
Step.
Step.
Every conversation stopped.
Every gaze turned.
Ira walked in—
Not slow.
Not fast.
Just steady.
She reached the table.
And sat down.
Right across from him.
Darian Rhex.
Sharp features.
Still posture.
Eyes that didn’t wander.
He didn’t smile.
Didn’t greet.
Just looked at her—
Like he was calculating something.
“Ira.”
Her brother’s voice.
Martin.
Standing beside the table.
“You promised.”
A pause.
“You said you’ll sign it.”
💣 No emotion. Just pressure.
Ira looked at him.
“I remember.”
No argument.
No hesitation.
The contract was placed in front of her.
Pages filled with conditions.
Not marriage—
An agreement.
For power.
For expansion.
For families.
Her fingers rested on the paper.
Cold.
For a second—
Everything slowed.
Then Darian spoke.
“You don’t have to look so calm.”
Low voice.
Controlled.
Ira’s eyes lifted to him.
“And you don’t have to look so unaffected.”
💥 First clash.
A faint shift in his expression.
Barely noticeable.
“This isn’t personal,” he said.
“Then don’t make it sound like it is.”
Silence.
Darian leaned back slightly.
“Good.”
A pause.
“That makes this easier.”
Easier.
The word stayed in the air.
Ira picked up the pen.
No trembling.
No second thought.
Just a small pause—
And then—
She signed.
💣 The sound of the pen touching paper felt louder than it should have.
Done.
Her mother looked away.
Martin exhaled.
Satisfied.
Darian didn’t react immediately.
But his gaze stayed on her.
Because she didn’t look relieved.
Didn’t look broken.
She looked…
Empty.
After the Signing
The room slowly cleared.
Voices faded.
Footsteps disappeared.
Only silence remained.
Ira stood near the window.
The contract still lying behind her.
Final.
Darian’s voice came from behind.
“You didn’t ask anything.”
She didn’t turn.
“There was nothing to ask.”
“Or nothing you wanted to hear?”
💣 That landed.
Now she turned.
Slowly.
“I don’t expect anything from this.”
A pause.
“So I won’t be disappointed.”
Silence.
Darian watched her—
More carefully now.
Because that wasn’t strength.
That was distance.
“Good,” he said finally.
“That makes two of us.”
But something about the way he said it—
Didn’t sound entirely true.
And Ira—
Didn’t notice.
“Did Ira make the right choice?” Comment me yes or no 🖇️ I'll reply right one
