My Black Is Beautiful
My Black is Beautiful by Andria Thompson
From the color of my skin to the texture of my hair to the length of my strands, to the breadth of my smile,
To the stride of my gait, to the span of my arms, to the depth of my bosom, to the curve of my hips, to the glow of my skin,
My Black is Beautiful.
It cannot be denied. It will not be contained. And only I will define it.
For when I look in my mirror, my very soul cries out,
My Black is Beautiful.
And so today, I speak it out loud, unabashedly, I declare it anew,
My Black is Beautiful.
Whether celebrated, imitated, exploited or denigrated. Whether natural from inside or skillfully applied,
My Black is Beautiful.
To my daughters, my sisters, my nieces, my cousins, my colleagues, and my friends,
I speak for us all when I say again,
My Black is Beautiful.
My Black is beautiful.
Your black is beautiful.
Welcome my loyal readers to my first ever female black lead novel. I have read so many books portraying black women as strong leads but with that little insecurity nagging at the back of their heads. We all have that doubtful inner you and it plays on our confidence, like really bad. After reading authors from Kimani Romance novels, Brenda Jackson and others I was inspired to do my own with my experience as a thick black girl in the world of pretty slim girls. It took me so long to accept that this is me.
My thick thighs. Small waist. Big Booty.
That is me.
No matter how many diets and slimming clothing will take that away. I’ve allowed past boyfriends to break me down and destroy my confidence just for them to stay with me but I’ve learned my lesson. My solace was books and still are books. I’ve found strength in them and I want to bring that to you.
You, my reader who may be at home feeling alone.
My shy silent reader at the back of the class or in the library with his or her head in a book or phone.
My reader who knows that they are different and afraid to show it.
I see you, well read you from your comments on previous books and your option in following me. You’re strong, don’t let anyone tamper with that. Be you! Find that one thing that you’re good at and go with it.
My love is reading and as I found out a few years ago so is writing. It can be the same for you why don’t you go with it also. I want to be there for all of you just as my fave authors were there for me. Black, Caucasian, Filipino whatever may be your background I’m here for you.
More To Love is for you guys.
Enjoy!!!
