"Somewhere safe tells an interesting story about themes of war or the children of war, I had fun seeing Max and Sarah's relationship build up, The plot is intriguing since I've never had a thing for historic fiction but this was the few that I like, The pacing got a bit slow for me but that's a nitpick all the same I enjoy this book and plan on continuing my read on it"

War through the eyes of a child
"I was pulled into this book since the first chapter. The hystorical approach from wartime through the eyes of children is incredibly original. Bravo. They are almost always forgotten and this is a refreshing point of view. Sarah and Max grow through their passion of reading books and their conversation is witty and entertaining. Well done! "

"I read your dedication and I hope your aunt is resting in peace. It took me 2 days but I finished the book and I must say, I am glad I took the time to read this masterpiece. I love historical fiction and this just made me fall in love with it even more. The plot is unique and so perfectly executed. There is a consistent flow in chapters and descriptions are brilliant. I loved the characters' interactions and every chapter was an adventure, emotion evoking and a joy to read. I hope there will be a hard copy soon because I wouldn't mind reading this a couple more time. Amazing work."

A Safety Blanket for Weary Days
"A war-torn era disrupts the lives of two young people hailing from very opposite backgrounds - a British girl anxious of the circumstances of war and an Austrian boy mistaken for a German who loves books and anything weird. I loved the author's immersive storytelling - mind you, historical novels are usually intricately drawn and well-researched - and Somewhere Safe hit the marks for the aforementioned descriptions. Each character's personality has this distinctive quality to it, telling you which sets one from another. I enjoyed Max and Sarah's banters mostly and their nerdy conversations (they're bookworms too so they're definitely going to be my bffs in the real world). Those literary references are a delight - I always prefer those stories that have their own voices and Somewhere Safe changed me. It's a safety blanket that you could cozy up after a tiring day. I'll definitely recommend this to those who love historical drama/children's fiction. Excellent work Sofia and keep writing! :)"

Good Start
"Hello, I would to say that I enjoyed the story after reading 4 chapters for so far. The grammar and the prose is good whereas the reader can follow along with the story. I have enjoyed the part where Max and Sarah experienced new things in a new environment, especially where the Doctor shows to be understanding and isn't quick to judge for being Jewish. There is more to read about the story, so I will continue to read it. It is a good story to read."
An interesting read!
"This was an interesting read! I liked that it was centred on the experience of two children rather than from a solider's perspective, which often is the case with many war stories. It gave a new perspective and allowed for more light-hearted moments to be had. Making Max Jewish and Austrian made it even more intriguing - despite being a child, he was still sometimes faced with prejudices from his peers, though I liked that he had a group of friends to support him. The corporal punishment scene - while sad to read - was true to its time and very well written. The scene where Max is telling her about the letter was also well done; you captured the emotions very well. The dialogue was good but felt a little too mature at times - I know this is set in the 1930s where the pattern of speech was different and more formal, but I sort of forget they were children sometimes. I did enjoy the addition of different languages - German, French - and felt it added an extra layer of realism to the piece since it was a 'WORLD' war, so the different cultures and languages were a great way of reminding us of that. The narrative was a little 'tell-y' rather than 'show-y' at times. Showing us the characters emotions - even with something as simple as "he frowned", "she clenched her first" etc - rather than being told "he was confused" or "she was angry" adds a lot to the story and allows the reader to become more engaged. This is something we all do though, especially in the first drafts; it's nothing a few edits won't fix :) All in all, really good job with this!"

Seen through the eyes of children and the effects of being at war, while trying to live their lives normally is wonderfully described in this story. "I love the theme of the entire novel. The settings, the characters, the plot, everything is spot on. I did find some errors though, like in the first chapter I am pretty sure you missed a comma in the first paragraph, I think. My tip is to use grammerly to avoid minor errors like this, I do too. :) Other than that the book is quite interesting and you are doing a great job at keeping everyone on there ties everytime. I enjoyed reading the book and I am excited to read more chapters from your novel too. :)"
Great Story!
"The story so far is great! The development of the characters, their stories, personalities, and relationships are at good pace. Both Max and Sarah are well rounded and feel real instead of just a flat character in a novel. The passion behind the story and everything in there is so obvious that it makes the story so much better! The connection and feeling of the author portrays so well through the characters that it is hard not to feel the same. The only thing that personally bothers me is how the dialog is done. Using apostrophes instead of quations marks isn't my favorite, but it doesn't take away from the story and is more of a preference than anything else. I cannot wait to read more and this is such a beautiful story! I am a nut when it comes to historic set stories and will always be a little biased. Great job! "
