Prologue: I'm Sasha!

Have you ever wondered what lies beyond this realm of ours? And while thinking that did you ever imagined a world beyond us that exist just among us, but we could never see it with the ordinary sight....

Let me be honest, I can see ghost and lost souls and all other beings one can name. But I only keep my senses up till ghost. It’s too much to understand the complex world of all other beings that exist!

I’m Sasha, and it’s my 18th year of existing in this horrifying world. My life is unlike any. I’m poor, means very very poor to the extend I am getting married next week just so that I can clear my father’s debt.

Yep, you guessed it right! I’m marrying the son of the creditor.

My only relief is that they are rich and I can have three comfortable meals a day.

My life apart from the ghost sighting was pretty boring. I often dug myself in books that took me away from the pain of my reality. And while doing that I stumbled upon a certain writer whose books are like a fever dream. And I’m in love with him now.

But, he is dead. Wish I can meet his ghost! That’s just me having a wishful thinking.

After marriage though, I found out something odd about my husband. He had been haunted by a ghost for a while, seems like that’s the reason, father-in-law was desperate to make me his son’s bride. I don’t understand what they want? A cat fight!

Come on! Being able to see a ghost is a hassle enough, now they even want me to fight them. Not fair....

Life is full of surprises and that’s why I got one too.

Just, a few weeks into this strange marriage and I saw a female ghost lurking around Kabir. Ah..my husband remember?

She was really into him. Like really!

Because, finally she took out sometime to come greet me through the mirror. Now, that’s spooky right? Nope!

The spookiest part is that it was midnight at 00:00 hours.....

I woke up thirsty and went to the kitchen slumbering through the palace’s huge stairs aka my husband's mansion and when I returned I just had out of nowhere the urge to comb my hairs and I did so without switching on the lights. I have such a good eye sight, who needs lights?

And after a few seconds, I realized that my short black hairs had suddenly become long. Quite long! And my brown eyes had turned ocean blue. I have never noticed that I was that beautiful. Midnight sure shows you your reality!

“Wait, that woman...is...not me!”

“Oh, no! I must go for a run.” And I was about to go for a run when a woman exactly my height, though not age, held on to the door knob. “Who are you?”

You are wrong, it’s not me. The mirror ghost just questioned me.

“Why did he marry you? And, why aren’t you scared?”

See...I told you it’s the ghost now who had taken the interrogating chair. “I’m scared. Trust me!”

“No. You are not! You are gazing at me.

Am I looking gorgeous at this moment?” She set aside her long hairs, rolling her eyes into a different direction as if it was obvious.

“No, not at all.” Yes, I know I screwed up that too with a ghost.

“What? Did you just called me ugly?”

“No..no. That’s not what I meant.”

“Then, explain yourself. I’m listening.” She locked her arms demanding an apology.

“You look....just like me!”

On hearing that she had an expression as if she saw a bomb dropping. “What? Are you crazy? Go look at yourself in the mirror. You will know you can never be as beautiful as me. Ah...maybe it’s because of the dark!” She immediately shook her hand as if shoving away that thought right now.

Then she went and sat up at the bed. “It looks like, it’s usual affair for you to see someone like me. Then, let's get to the point. I love your husband. Well, he’s my fiance. But, it’s just that with the change of century & rebirth, he forgot about me. It’s all okay. I can get him back. So, you can just fuck off! I mean leave him.

Is that clear enough?”

She was demanding a reply to the clueless me who was just surprised that a face like me can actually look that good. She was really a rare Indian beauty, unfortunately a ghost like she claims to be.

Why has life been this unfair to me? Poverty never left my family. Childhood spent in a library. When teenage knocked at my door, I was abruptly kicked into a marriage! And now a ghost who is my doppelganger and claims to be a past lover of the man I married. Can life be any more interesting?

I needed a deep breath and then I sat beside her.

“Tell me your story?

I swear I’m a good listener......”
