Contest Terms

• Penny Reid, Smartypants and Inkitt invite all fans of the author and her universes, to participate in our fanfiction Contest.
• The contest will run from 1st of November to the 30th of January 2023. All submissions within this date will be counted as contest submissions.
• The winners will be announced within the following 3 weeks on Smartypants's newsletter and social media channels, Inkitt's social media channels and on Inkitt.com.
• Your title should start with “SPFC:” in the title. (e.g. “SPFC: A spicy hickup”)
• The minimum word count per submission is 3,000 words by the contest end date. There is no maximum word limit.
• Stories must be written within the genre of Romance. However, other genres can also be involved in the story-line.
• Penny is giving most creative freedom to create your story, she only asks that no Original Character is killed. And of course that you stick to the genre of Romance.
• Entering the contest is free; all that is required is to start writing your book on Inkitt and submit it on the contest page.
• Stories can be in any language but take into account this is primarily English.
• Stories must be original works. No plagiarism will be tolerated.
• You must own the rights to the novel. You retain all rights to your stories while posted on Inkitt. Previously or currently self-published books are accepted.
• Because this is fan fiction based on the work of another author, if your story is selected, you grant to Inkitt, Penny Reid and Smartypants the right to use, refer to, modify, publish, publicly display, and create derivative works of your contest entry, including any images submitted, but excluding any personal data.
• Entries part of a series that have already been signed to or published on Galatea are not eligible to enter.
• Stories behind a paid tier under the Subscription program are not eligible to enter.
• Stories can be written in any genre as long as they are fiction. Non-fiction and poetry are not eligible.
• Winners will be selected by Penny Reid from a shortlist curated by Inkitt's algorithm using the popularity and bingability of their stories, taking into account likes, comment, number of readers, readers behaviour and others.
• Authors cannot enter a contest more than once with the same story, but an author may submit as many stories as they want.
• We collect data on your submission from the day it's received. You must own the rights to the novel. You retain all rights to your stories while posted on Inkitt.
• Stories must abide by Inkitt’s community guidelines. No glorification of non-consensual sexual acts. Please check the Terms of Service on our website first.
• All federal, state and/or local taxes, fees, and surcharges are the sole responsibility of the prize winner.
• All prizes are non-transferable, non-refundable, not for resale, and cannot be exchanged. The prizes are supplied in good faith and Inkitt cannot be held responsible for any changes or cancellations.
