Chapter 38 Moving
Author POV
Doctor Opie walked in with Doc, and Katia jumped from the bed, running to her pack doctor. The two were obviously close by the way they hugged each other. Doc held her at arm’s length and looked her over. “You are alive and look healthier than I have ever seen you. I think you’ve even put on a little more weight. You are still too thin, but it’s okay. We have forever to fatten you up.”
Katia smiled and kissed him on the cheek before turning back to the bed and me. She brought the doctor from her pack with her. She stopped in front of me and stared for a minute. Nathan could tell she and her Doc were communicating with each other and blocked him from the conversation.
Doc then looked at Nathan “Well, my boy, Katia tells me you’re her second chance mate. She also says you don’t act like the other Alphas she’s known. She says so far, you haven’t punished her for her mistakes, that you are patient and explain things to her, and that you’re nice to look at.” Katia smacked Doc on the arm and frowned at him as I chuckled.
“I don’t know all of what the other Alphas did to her. But I can assure you, and her, that she is the most precious thing in the world to me and our pack,” Nathan said, pulling Katia from Doc into his lap. He took a deep breath, inhaling her scent of cinnamon and oranges. Looking at Nathan, Doc could see the adoration in the Alpha’s eyes for his mate and hoped that their little ghost had finally found her happiness. If not, they would do whatever was necessary to protect her. “Well, Alpha Luna, this young doctor here would like to take a look at you and see if he can release you today,” Doc smiled at her.
Katia once again went completely quiet, and then Doc answered verbally, “Of course, I will stay for the examination. I want to make sure our girl is getting the best treatment.”
Doctor Opie stepped forward. “Alpha, if you wouldn’t mind, could you lay the Luna on the bed so I can take a look at her injuries?”
Nathan did as he was asked and stepped away from the bed. Katia reached out and grabbed his hand. “Please, you can stay next to me, but don’t get upset when you see the rest of my body. It’s over and done. I’ve already been through it,” her sweet voice told him.
It was one of the hardest things he’d ever done. Nathan couldn’t believe the damage to her body. How she’d survived was something he would never understand. The fact that she survived having her throat almost completely torn out was a miracle. He did his best to show no reaction, but he promised himself that one day she would tell him how she received every single scar and who had given it to her. “And then I’m going to find them, and if they’re still alive, I’m going to kill them!” his wolf Kalen said.
Finally, both doctors agreed that Katia could leave and move to the Alpha apartments. However, she had to promise not to lift a finger and to rest. Nathan didn’t give her a choice; he answered for her. He promised Katia that if she didn’t listen to the doctor’s orders, she would have guards to make sure she did. Katia didn’t mind the threat. She was excited and wanted to go see her new home and hopefully some old friends.
As soon as Doctor Opie left, Nathan called for some of the pack members to gather what belongings they had in the hospital room and scooped Katia up bridal style. He carried her out the door, and they walked the short distance to the pack house. Doc told her he was going to go inform the Moon Touched pack of the good news and that he’d see her later for dinner. Nathan continued carrying her through the foyer of the pack house, then up the stairs to the third floor. He explained to her that this was the Alpha level. “On the Alpha level is the Alpha and his family. Dalia, and of course your cousin Kane, lives in the south wing, and we live in the north wing,” he exclaimed proudly.
Katia just swallowed and tried to take in the size of the building, trying to imagine how big the living wings must be. “This is amazing, and I get to live here? Don’t tell me you have a Luna wing.” Chuckling, Nathan said, “No, my lady, fortunately the Luna lives with the Alpha so he can protect his most precious gift from the Moon Goddess.”
Just then, Nathan kicked open a huge copper door. Stepping inside, he set her down just inside the room. Katia just stared at the room; it took her breath away.
Walking through the door, she entered what looked to be a living/family room. The walls were made of gray stone, and all the window frames were made from copper, like the door. The carpet was soft black with purple specks. There was a light gray sofa and two matching chairs. A dark cherry-colored table sat in the middle of the furniture, and across the room, hanging on the wall, was a television the size of the wall. Underneath was a state-of-the-art entertainment center with a gaming station, games, and DVDs.
Walking further in and through a small door to the left was a huge bedroom with a wall that was nothing but windows and glass doors. A balcony was just outside the doors. Inside the bedroom was a small kitchenette with a small range, island, microwave, coffee pot, and small fridge. There were a couple of cabinets that Katia figured held some utensils.
To the right side of the bedroom were more doors. One opened into a huge bathroom with the biggest shower and tub Katia had ever seen. Another led to a huge walk-in closet that already had clothing and accessories in it for her. The last door led to another large room that would be a nursery someday, Nathan informed her. Each room had the same coloring except for the bathroom; the bathroom was all white tile with the tub, sink, toilet, and shower in gray with dark purple streaks running through it.
Nathan watched as Katia moved slowly around the Alpha living space and told her, “You can make any changes you like.”
Smiling, she told him, “I love it. I don’t want to change a thing.”
He assured her, though, that if she decided she did, then it would be okay. He wasn’t attached to anything except the bed, television, and game system. Walking toward Katia, he scooped her up and finished with, “And maybe my gift from the Moon Goddess.”
And then Katia received her first real kiss. Nathan leaned in and softly pressed his lips to hers. Katia automatically reached her arms up and put them around his neck. Pressing herself closer, she closed her eyes and felt sparks jump everywhere they were touching. It felt so good. Her body tingled, and she couldn’t help the hoarse moan of pleasure that slipped out. Nathan pulled back. “You liked that, little mate?”
She nodded, and then there was a knock at the door. Nathan told her that everyone from the day before was here for her to finish telling them what happened to her and who she was. He set her on the sofa and went to answer the door.
As each person entered, they let her know how happy they were that she was out of the hospital and in her new home. They were very good at remembering she had to communicate through the link and mostly spoke, so she didn’t have to expend more energy than necessary. They understood she was still healing and some of the wounds were deep. Some of her bones had been shattered and took a lot of energy to heal.
Everyone settled on the furniture. Dalia sat next to her, hugged her gently, and held her hands. Kane sat next to Dalia but not before giving Katia a quick peck on the cheek. He then sat and put his arm around Dalia. Mark and Kelp sat across from them. Nathan came over, scooped Katia up, and settled her on his lap.
Kane looked at her. “It’s okay, Katia. My dad says it’s time.”
