"Excellent plot and story line, compares very favourably with the old master writers, eg Louis L'amour. Kept me on the edge of my seat! Would recommend to anyone who loves a good western. Would like to see more books from this writer. "
Love this book!
"If it wasn't for the Roadmap Awards I probably wouldn't have read this book. Westerns have never been my cup of tea - or shot of whiskey in this case. BUT! This is why I love these types of contests. I read books I wouldn't pick up on my own and a whole new world opens up. The Willow Rise Six is extraordinary! If you love westerns, give this book a read. It is action packed and full of grit and gristle that will leave you wanting more with each chapter. I absolutely loved how the author ended each chapter with a cliff hanger or a witty bit of writing. Reading the comments below each chapter confirmed what I was feeling: It is like reading a much awaited weekly installment of your favorite story. You can't wait to see what the characters do next. Very well done author! Loved this book!"
The Willow Rise Six review
"I can say that reading this novel I realised that I really missed western novels. A big fan of Winnetou’s adventures, I filled my adolescence with Karl May’s books. The Willow Rise Six is a delightful surprise with a caching first chapter. The story is straightforward, flawless, and the characters are very real, complex; in a word well-crafted. Their arc is clear and well built. I like Sam and his perception of the world. The author extraordinarily described Alice as a woman with a lot of interests and also revengeful. I like the way Bill came out - very complex character. I love the writer’s style - relaxed and precise. Also, the plot keeps you reading, and the story has a nice pace (a bit slow sometimes) and good transitions. There are excellent descriptions helping in creating an extraordinary world. We have action, suspense and consistency, which is enough to keep you reading until the end. I would have liked more dialogue. Besides physical appearance and actions, the dialogue can help build a veridical character. Another plus point goes for the cover. I love it! "
wow
"Although this story is very different from the stories I usually read, I can't help but say that it blew me away. The way it's written is so inspiring to authors like me who are just starting to write. all the characters are described so well that you feel like you know them. The technical skills are excellent and the plot keeps you on edge all the time, which is great. I hope there's more coming as I don't want it to end like this. A very well done to the author. You are amazing."
"The devil knows your secrets" review
"Willow Rise - a place run by the deepest pocket or the fastest bullet. Yet, no matter the player, the filthiest soul always wins. The one that has a hold of your darkest secret and is willing to slam you down with it until you are only worthy to knock on the gates of hell. When you read Willow Rise Six you instinctively ask your self what your darkest secret is and how could you stay away from that devil with a human face. The writing is top notch and the reader should be advised to search for meaning beyond words. The delivery is simple and neatly created, built as various points of views with each chapter for each of the characters. The devil's true voice however, just like in the scripture, is revealed for the reader through the voices of the 5 sinners. Like peeling away layers of a mille feuille cake, with each chapter we also discover our dark heroes. The author progresivley gives us details about them, yet just enough to keep reading. The scenic depiction is flawless. The text reads smoothly into images. The action and dialogue however needs some extra attention from the reader because it is jam-packed. I found myself unwillingly getting attached to a character only to be left with my heart in shambles by the end of the chapter. Cruel author! But, only a skilful author can make you say that yet keep you reading. Each character has his distinct persona, from gestures to their way of speaking. The dialogue is faithful to that but through out the chapters I expected to feel that from the way the chapter was written. This is not a critique, but maybe a suggestion for making this book truly unique. The plot. The main plot is lined with smaller ones and has enough plot twists to make you gasp or chuckle. The story is one that might sound familiar but the way it is built makes for a complex story and worthy of the five star treatment. Though I have seen the devil's true colors I confess Bill is my favorite character and as it is fitting for him I hope he would get what is coming for him and find salvation somehow. Either way, as a true western fan, I hope by the end of the book someone will ride of into the sunset. There are minor and scarce grammar issues but the quality overall is 5 stars."
Simply a Masterpiece!
"Now THIS is a story of legend! I loved every chapter. I binged so much I never realised it was 1am in the morning. There was not one chapter that lagged. Your pacing is excellent, you keep the reader captivated with excellent descriptions that do not drag (something I find in many stories) and the characters are both relatable and not two dimensional. Anyone reading this review, please like and support this talented author. As for me, I am a new fan!"
The Willow Rise Six
"Oh! The unique characterization of each of the six and how there's this feeling of sinners and saints, yet the supposed saint has his own skeletons that are eating him whole—just brilliant! I enjoyed the masterful storytelling, it created an insatiable need to learn about each character and see how the entire team functions on this quest. I love Bill's character, so poised, stoic and calculating, it was so thrilling to watch this play out like a movie. Such an unusual lot, and learning about their past and how in a way they're indebted to Bill, and seeing them from another character's POV was so genius. It created this flow and pace in the storytelling that reminded me a lot of the Magnificent Seven film. The most rousing moment for me still is the scene with Mr Banks, I did not see that twist with Mr. King coming, how I fell in love with the scums and sinners of Willow Rise there. This is a suspenseful and beautifully written story, makes me want to be a part of this team. Each has a story, a past they're seeking to atone for, and it's just so relatable in an indescribable way. Alan's a maestro storyteller."
Unique and Engaging
"While I don't usually gravitate to Western style pieces, the excepting being the western episode of Supernatural, I found myself drawn into the world of the Willow Rise Six almost immediately. These characters are complex and entice you in different ways. Some anger the fuck out of you while others are more intriguing. Some you just tolerate. They feel like real people. The style feels just like an old western, sending me back to the days of watching Lone Ranger or Hopalong Cassidy with my grandfather. I cannot wait to read more and follow the twisty road with these characters until the very end. Amazing job! "
Different and exciting!
"While Western is not one of my favorite genres, I'm terribly picky about it, and for no particular reason. But this book was impossible to put aside. It flows smoothly and the descriptions are on point. Easy to follow, with the right amount of suspense and action that paints a realistic, yet unexpected plot. And that's not even the best of it. The characters are what bring this book to life. The author has created well-rounded, complex, and fascinating characters, easy to love or hate. Or tolerate. Just like real people. Reading about the fate and misfortune of this mismatched group feels like watching a movie. Kudos to the author, this is truly great work!"
The Willow Rise Six
"Descriptive and engaging."
Nice start...very nice start
"I have to say that western stories are not really my genre. I prefer magical fantasy or science fiction. However, with The Willow Rise Six, I seriously couldn't put it down until I finished what's been published. The characters are incredibly believable. I get a feeling of sympathy for Sam, Peter and Alice, they are caught up in something through their own previous misfortunes, misfortunes they have trouble facing up to, and misfortunes that let Bill wield his influence over them. Levi strikes me as the type I could see being played by Clint Eastwood in his man with no name days, hard as steel and just as cold and uncompromising. While Bill is like a spider, weaving devious, manipulative webs with threats of revealing secrets so he gets people to do what he wants, A mastermind type that treats others like mere puppets. I very much look forward to the finishing the story. My only criticism would be technically based. It's small I know but at one point Boone walks into the office having cleaned the blood of his father off himself and the sentence refers to "his firearms having been wiped clean". The story implied Boone beat his father to death rather than shot him! So I would have said forearms would have been a more appropriate word, like I said only a small point and maybe it was a typo"
Well done
"I have to admit that when I began reading this it was a slow beginning. The writing skills are unquestionably up to par. I found one tiny plot hole, which certainly didn't pull me out of the story. I found each character to be well drawn, giving me a feel for each one in turn. The writing style is concise, well thought out, and clearly shows what is needed to get across the information needed. The Plot was a bit slow in building. It seemed as if the character profiles were barely introducing a plot until chapter 6. I am engaged with the story throughout, more because of the strong characters than the actual plot. I look forward to following this story for twists, turns, and depth that I am now sure I will find. Bravo."
Compelling
"This is like a real novel, the hard ones I used read before the pandemic. The writing style is smooth. The grammar is great. And honestly, I have never read anything related to this genre. This was my first. And I loved it😍😍. I couldn't stop flipping the pages. It's a great book. I think you should consider publishing this. With love, Maria. P.S. Are you an actual, professional writer?"
The Willow Rise Six
"What a great novel. Although the genre's not what I typically read, I was quickly drawn into the story line. The writing style is superb. The highly descriptive writing is impressive, and continues throughout the novel. If you are looking for a great, well written story, you'll want to dive into this one. Moreover; if you like a suspenseful build, you'll love this read. Five star impressed! "
Brilliant
"I love it. Not my usual type of book but it's just so good. I'm surprised it isnt a real novel yet!"
Wow
"This feels like a full blown novel. I'm actually surprised I don't have to pay for it. Let's start with the good stuff, shall we? Writing style is top notch. If you want super descriptive language, this is the thing you should read. Grammar and punctuation are next to perfect, which is an unfortunately rare commodity on the internet. Now, for plot. I would first like to say that this is a personal preference thing, and not reflective on the author or the story. Because of the descriptive writing style, the plot takes a long time to build up. With it, comes a great sense of suspense, however if you like things to go off with a bang like I do, this might not be the book for you. Overall, it's a great read for those who have the patience. Keep it up!"
Gripping
"This is another one of those rare Inkitt novels that feel professionally written. Your descriptions, dialogue, characters, and action are all spot-on. While I enjoy the genre, I haven't read many Westerns, but this one is absolutely thrilling. Some things I would suggest are to make Sam's chapters a little longer because he's such an interesting character, and personally I would love to see more from his point of view, and maybe split up some of the longer paragraphs into shorter ones to make them easier to read. The diversity and in-depth development of all the characters are such an adventure to read. Each one is so unique in personality and backstory, yet somehow they work perfectly as a group. I can tell that this story revolves around the characters, and while reading about them is wonderful, I would make sure to balance the plot and the character stories a little more, particularly later on. Right now there's 14 chapters, and the main plot itself is just getting going. Of course, I don't know what you have planned for the rest of the book, so feel free to ignore my advice depending on what your intentions are. Overall, this book is enthralling and incredible. I will definitely be looking out for more updates!"
Fantastic start!
"A few chapters in, and this is the best story I’ve read in a long time. It’s suspenseful, descriptive, and intelligent. Can’t wait for more. Great job!"
The Willow Rise Six
"A western story like no other. This story was so gripping! I loved your writing style and grammar. The character arch and plot was so rich. I like how you describe everyone's character flaws in each chapter. It had a nice flow layered with heavy details, which I was able to visualize. It reminded me of the movie Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood. Honestly, this book is worthy of being published. Keep on writing!"
Best I’ve Read
"Odd to find a book on here that I feel is good enough to get published, but so far this is one of them. Incredible story, incredible characters, and incredible writing so far. Good description without going overboard and even better character writing. Each one has their own feel, and that is super important. Great job!!! Also, doesn’t feel like a normal western. Reads more like an adventure novel that just happens to be in the Wild West. Well done with that!!!"
