Chapter 1

Audrey Wilson

“Addy? Are you awake yet?” mom yelled for the third time in fifteen minutes, and I groaned before finally getting up from my bed.

Why can't I sleep in for at least a day!

I have just returned home from college, and I feel like I still did not find the serene heaven that I am looking for. After a quick shower, I grabbed my phone and made my way downstairs to the kitchen, where I saw my mom and dad already having breakfast without me again.

“Good morning, darling.” dad greeted, and I grumbled a reply before taking a seat next to mom, and I eyed the plate that was in front of me. A plate filled with the best comfort food ever, bacon, omelet, cheese, and toast. After seeing the food that was in front of me, the anger from a few minutes back just vanished into thin air, and I quickly started digging into my breakfast.

“So, when are you going to meet Catherine?” mom broke the pregnant pause that was in the kitchen, and I looked up from my plate to see that dad was also looking at me with curiosity.

“I was thinking of leaving after breakfast. Since the Dark Moon pack is a four-hour journey.” I responded, and mom nodded her head, but dad had a faraway look on his face. The Dark Moon pack has a reputation of being at the top among our kind, and that immediately makes their Alpha the most ruthless, cunning, and a total snob. So due to the above reason, dad was a bit wary about me going there, but after mom convinced him that I might get a chance at finding my mate he agreed.

The word mate brings the dead butterflies in my stomach back to life, and I know I will not be mating with any high ranking wolves since none of my family members have ever been mated to a high ranking wolf for generations, but I will be happy with whoever my mate is going to be.

“Don't forget to give us a regular update about your whereabouts, Addy. And you come right back home if you face any danger. Understood?” Dad warned, and I gave him my sweetest smile and nodded my head.

After our family breakfast was over, I went back to my room and brought down all the bags that I am going to take, and dad helped me load everything into my car. Once everything was done, I hugged my parents goodbye, and mom pulled me into a motherly hug again. “Make sure you give me a call as soon as you find your mate.” She whispered, and I let out a laugh.

“You will be the first one to know, mom,” I whispered back, and once I pulled away from the hug, dad looked at us both in suspicion, but he didn't question us. So after all that farewell, I got into the car and left my house and my pack.

The road towards the Dark Moon pack was surrounded by lush green trees on either side, and there were just the occasional cars zooming past me, but other than that, I was all alone on this road and the downside was there was not a single cafe or restaurant nearby.

Urgh! Why can't the werewolves build something useful here? I mean, won't people get hungry on a car journey?

Right as I was in the middle of my rumble, I spotted a small cabin about five hundred meters ahead, and there was a huge sign on top of it that read, ‘Carlton food.’

Well, I guess God has answered my prayers after all.

I quickly stopped at that place and got down of my car, and stretched my legs and hands before walking inside. The moment I opened the glass double doors, I was hit with the aroma of food and baked goodies, to my right there was a glass box with an array of desserts, and to my left, there were tables and chairs for the customers to sit, but the place was mostly empty not a single human being on sight.

“Good morning, ma'am. Please take a seat, and a waiter will come to you shortly.” a voice from behind me spoke, and I jumped from my spot and clutched my racing heart.

“Oh goodness, I am sorry, darling, if I had frightened you.” I turned around to see a woman who must be in her late fifties, standing there with a hurt look on her face.

“Oh, that is alright, I am sorry that I didn't realize you were here.” I apologized and went over to take a seat, and I started to look over the menu to see what they have. And a few minutes later, a guy, maybe a few years older than me, approached my table with a small notepad and a pen.

“Hi, I am George. What can I get for you?”

“Um, I will have a bottle of chilled water and your famous spaghetti, thank you.” he quickly scribbled it on the paper and went back inside to get my order. And a few minutes later, he came back outside with my food. “Enjoy,” he said and then left.

I was extremely hungry, so I was done with my food in less than fifteen minutes, and soon after, George brought me the bill. And when I handed him the cash, my hand lightly touched his, and that is when my life took a whole three-sixty degree turn.

Sparks flew by wherever our skin made contact, and I saw George’s eyes turn slightly darker, and he mumbled the one word that I was yearning to hear from the day I turned eighteen.

“Mate!.” it warmed my heart, and I felt like the happiest person on earth, but something didn't sit well with me. I have heard countless stories from my parents that your wolf will call out to your mate and run around in your head screaming that word, but strangely for me, my wolf just laid dormant inside me.

Riya? We found our mate! Why aren't you telling me anything?

“Addy, I thi...” Riya abruptly stopped talking, which was strange, and when I tried several times to talk to her, it was like there was an invisible barrier between us. I was not able to communicate with her.

“George, I am delighted that I have found you, but my wolf didn't tell me anything.”

“Oh, darling, I have heard a lot of cases like that. It takes some time for your wolf. Anyway, now that I have found my mate, I would like to know her name.”

“Oh, I am Audrey. Audrey Wilson.” I introduced myself, and a smile appeared on his face.

“A beautiful name for a beautiful mate,” George said, which caused my cheeks to heat up, and I averted my eyes from him.
