Trials Review

"I read this story as a judge for the romance category of the 2021 Coalition Awards. This story took first place, and it was well deserved! It's fabulous, and the first chapter alone is just stunning. I was enthralled through the entire start. It's reminiscent of Rice's Queen of the Damned but is also entirely unique. It's certainly a fresh spin on vampire lore. Truthfully, I found myself wishing that the following chapters had the same vibes as the beginning, but I think the switch in tone is perhaps intentional on the author's part. In order to avoid spoilers, I'll just say that I found a lot of what happens to the main character after losing her memory to be shocking and heartbreaking. My only criticism for the story is that there are a number of technical errors. It doesn't;t detract from a positive reading experience, but I do think a good proofread would do it wonders. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this unique tale!"

The honest review of an intriguing novel

"Someone else said "We don't glitter" and that made me chuckle. There are no glitters and none of the other overused vampire lore you would usually find in vampire novels. This book (or better said series of books) brings a new and imaginative approach with elements, characters and plot design. And above all soars something else: passion. The passion that the author poured into her work, imagining and developing the story. You sense that reading her paragraphs. You follow the female lead from being an all-powerful vampire queen to becoming helpless and amnesiac having to learn everything again. And she is put through these trials and tribulations because of the most universal reason: love. There are some elements of gore and sexual representations so be advised and take note of the +18 rating. I have encountered books that made me turn a page because of the plot, or because of the beautiful writing and I must say that this book helped me discover yet another reason a reader would turn a page: intrigue. The "why" and "because" are not plainly spelt for you to read. It is the share force that makes you continue reading, apart from the interesting premise and the interesting characters. In my opinion, there are some things to improve when it comes to the writing style. The descriptions are amazing to read most of the times and the dialogue is very good. I would work a little on how the author writes the filler parts - some more details on surroundings and not repetitive, the filler paragraph describing actions - they have a tendency to sound briskly. Then some grammar revisions so in my opinion, this book is still an advanced draft of what will become an amazing story. And this is an amazing story told by someone I have found to be a kindred spirit. - a truly passionate storyteller."

Lara

"I don't normally read about vampires, but this book and world sucked me in! I admit it took me a few chapters to get into the story, and the violence initially was jarring, but I think it's because this is a new genre for me. The story flowed well, and the world this author created was very vivid and written perfectly. I can't wait to read more about Lara and Gabriel."

Very Interesting

"It took me two days to read this story and I have to say I am impressed. I loved the twist in the vampire genre. It was not cliché at all. A few grammatical errors, but it did not take away from the excitement of the story. The characters were well written and I did not mind the long chapters at all. A very great read. I will be checking out more books from the author."

Love it!

"First of all, I like how you let your story unfold. It is clear you had this well planned out. I like the unique concept of vampires. Your descriptions, pacing and flow are just wonderful. Something to check on is your tenses, you seem to switch between present and past. Stick to one. And your blurb could use some editing to be more perfect."

We Don't Glitter

"I will start to say off I am a bit biased, for I have worked with the author before. I like her work. This book got me into trying to write stories myself. Now onto the review! This is a different take on the vampire legends. The egyp[tion theme that runs through the series provides a good background and setting for the characters. The author created a unique approach to vampires powers, she moved away from the traditional troups, I was impressed. with the mental combat presented, I will say it is unique .The story moves quickly and in some places slows down. The overall pacing is good. I can follow the characters in their lives. The story is a good read and it's not a one-off, the author has more books in the works, This first book works well as an Anthology with Ascendance (Book 2). So if you want to get the complete picture I sudgest you read both. The story does have some spicey scenes that are for the 18+, but still comparatively light. How do I rate the plot: I liked it, I can follow it. I got the just of what I needed to enjoy the story. How do I rate the author's writing style: I myself would have liked to see more of what the villains and the other characters were feeling and thinking, The story is told from the first-person perspective of Lara. How do you rate the author's technical writing skills: Better than mine, so I give a A+."

Trials (by Crixi)

"First of all, I want to say that this book definitely wasn't my usual cup of tea. I read paranormal fiction books on a regular basis, but this one was something else. The prologue was interesting, but as soon as you reached chapter 1 it was a new story all of it's own. It wasn't all magic, it wasn't all blood, it was a family and it was confusing and NEW. That's so amazing to see that I thought it should be mentioned. As I was reading, I kept looking for grammatical errors, but either I missed them or there weren't any because I didn't notice anything. (Although, maybe I was just very engrossed in the book?) Some of the parts I skimmed because I didn't feel comfortable reading the sheer detail of those parts, so be warned that this book lives up to the age rating. Other than that, though, I was entertained and thrilled by what was happening. Trials is a really good book. Great job, Crixi! One thing I would ask, sometimes Lara seemed stiff. If you managed to find a way to make her feel more emotional, that would be great. There were parts where you hinted at some more emotion like panic, and I really enjoyed that part. If it isn't possible, I understand. It's a hard box to fit and you did it almost flawlessly."

An absolute different hit!

"Being a writer of the vampire genre, I have to say that this one has brilliant potential as the plot is super intriguing and different from the normal ones. The author puts you in a captivating trance with her writing style. Except for a few grammatical (such as punctuations and tense) errors, which can be fixed with a light editing, I think this book is just perfect for dark fantasy lovers!! Keep up the good work!! 🙌🙌"

Exceptionally different from most other vampire stories

"This book has such an interesting story. I have never read or encounterd a book with this immense intriguing concept which keeps me reading non stop so I can get more. I believe that this story would appeal to readers that are wanting a more intriguing read that is out of the norm for most vampire stories. "

Trials

"I will be perfectly honest if I wasn't reading this for the lift I would have stopped at chapter three. Without a comment or review I would have moved quietly on without fuss. The book I was promised in the blurb I didn't get. I don't know why it had all the elements to be great. It just didn't capture my imagination. The main character was insipid at best. She starts off without her memory after 15 chapters I still as a reader don't know why so it becomes irrelevant. As a character she doesn't progress. She just drifts about without a purpose. We are told she spends twenty years. Can I say that again twenty years with a man she doesn't love because she cant remember how to cook. She eventual becomes a vampire Queen but again why? The character who was interesting we find out nothing because it is written in the first person from the point of view of the least interesting character. So we have a brilliant moody handsome vampire swoon. Sadly that is it we don't know why he protects her marks her makes her his mate etc. We have a book of vampire rules which is introduced at the beginning and sort of forgotten. The main character does abide by these rules but not by using the book. I wanted to read that book. For me it lacked substance. I think a back story would help and I don't mean about the human husband I would personally take that out completely. This needs a good ruthless edit, early chapters are repetitive. With a lot of telling not showing although later on you do get to grips with that with some great dialogue. The plot and idea are unique and clever the execution and story telling needs a rethink. Having read the other reviews lots of people like it. So with some work it could be amazing. As it is now if it came across my agents or publishers desk it would be a no. I am sorry it isn't more positive. You have loads of positive reviews so yes I could of said something nice and meaningless but that wouldn't move you or your writing forward. Give her a burning reason to do the things she does. Being attracted to mister moody isn't enough. Again I think it needs some back story."

Interesting Read

"This story has a new, inventive setting full of magical places and beings and also provides a strong lovable female lead. I like Lara’s demeanor ever since from the beginning chapter. Her relationship with Gabriel has an intriguing sense that makes me want to find out more about them as well. Your writing is wonderful. Though, in my personal opinion, perhaps you can try to add more physical description and balance them with the emotional or inner thoughts of the character. Showing the actual scene of what is happening would surely make the story even more captivating. There are several mistakes throughout, regarding the tenses and some trivial ones, but I’m sure you’ve heard of all those already, so keep it up! You’re doing great and will improve for sure as you advance. Happy writing!"
