Compelling first chapter

"I have read the first chapter and will definitely want to read more chapters from the author. Notably, the cover has simplicity in it. There were a few technical errors here and there but other than that, I don't think readers would want to miss this book---Promise. And I promise our read the next chapters!"

Interesting

"It's an interesting story but a bit rushed. I felt like I was at the end of the story in chapter four which is not good. But everything else is good "

Amazing start

"Starting from what I liked about your story- you maintained a sense of comfort throughout the whole story- "natural colour" "hug" ...This actually makes the story quite calming but the twist is you are writing something quite dark. That shows a contrast which is a good aspect of your story. Obviously the story seemed to be rushed and you didn't show emotions properly.. Other than saying- he said or she said- you can just directly show their expression or their actions. But as you said it's your first time writing, I must say this is a brilliant start. Keep writing and all these flaws will be gone soon."

It's a good book.

"Great chapter. From the start, we can already see the strength of the female character and personally, I love a strong female lead but I think you need to be a little bit more descriptive with your story. Being more flexible with your words and adding more details in scenes won't be a bad idea. But overall, it's a good book and I look forward to reading more chapters! "

Needs improvement

"A very promising story Elle. The plot seems good and the first chapter has been written nicely. It creates a suspense, that pushes you to read more, without giving away too much of information. The only problem is, that you make a lot of mistakes. You know grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes. But that's alright. You'll get better. It's something I am sure of, because you do show potential. And I also understand that English is not your first language, so you're bound to make mistakes. For that I would recommend a few things: you should read more books in English. That'll help you understand sentence construction. You should re-read your chapter, so you'll know what changes you want to make. And thirdly, you can also use apps that can help you edit it properly. And it's just first chapter, so you're doing good. I'll keep on updating my review, as I read the next chapters. looking forward to read more from you. : ) xoxoxo"

Critical Review of Promise

"LIGHT SPOILERS CHAPTERS 1-6 There are some concerns I have with the story: ~ There are a lot of grammatical errors. I recommend reading a lot of fiction and observing grammatical conventions. ~ Wes was not an impressive character. He seems emotionally abusive because of his toxic positivity and his condescending manner as well as his opinion that he knows what is best for her. Perhaps he was supposed to be this way, but I really think that the character (and perhaps you, the author) don't realise exactly how detrimental this is. ~ On a similar note, Rebecca. She just... becomes happy when Wes asks her to? I have anxiety and if someone asks me to stop feeling something; I start to either: cry, get out of that situation, or snap at them. If someone is feeling sad, it's probably for good reason, and if someone tells them to stop feeling sad, they don't just start smiling, however noble the intentions of the other was. ~ Along those lines, her having anxiety is not well-researched. Does she have generalized anxiety, high-functioning anxiety, social anxiety, a panic disorder, OCD, or C-PTSD/PTSD? Depending on which type, she probably has different triggers to a panic attack and other symptoms. For example, I usually have a panic attack when I have an impending deadline which I don't think I can get past, and I chew my nails and twirl my hair a lot. You should research this, as well as therapists, doctors, medications, etc. Also, someone doesn't get diagnosed or medicated for a mental disorder without having at least two or three therapist visits. ~ The characters have similar personalities. Perhaps make them more 3 dimensional and let them have differences in identities and their own quirks. I recommend the Big 5 Personality System, the Enneagram, and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) for the same. That being said, this story is magnificent in many ways: ~ The plot. It is original and well thought-out. I can see how much effort you have put into making it engaging. I was hooked right from the start. ~ The pace. I know that you have had concerns with the pacing before, but now it is just right. I am glad to see that you are improving in your writing style! ~ Rebecca. She is my favourite, and I love that she is 3 dimensional and that her personality is shining through in everything she does. ~ Your thought-process. Anxiety is really, really underrepresented in fiction. It is usually depression/suicide. I love that you have portrayed something that is extremely personal to me. I really think this story has great potential (or should I say great PROMISE)! I hope you keep writing, keep improving, and share your gifts with the world!! For the prospective readers, do I recommend this? On a scale of 1-10, probably a 6/7. x Vanessa."

About Promise

"If I had to summarize this book into one word, it would be rushed. Just everything feels rushed, and I had that feeling right from the start. The main character, Rebecca, meets her soulmate. They talk a bit, find that they have common ground in his background as a marine, and find themselves enjoying each other's company. So far, so good. I can see the spark between them, and it gives me good hope for their relationship. It is then that the rushing starts. The two characters immediately start discussing heavy topics and things that lie close to their hearts to someone they've only met a few minutes ago. Then comes a declaration of love, and they spend the night together. From there, the story just ends up in a whirlwind of big events following each other up. Rebecca faints out of nowhere, she's pregnant, three paragraphs later she decides to keep the baby, the next chapter she goes into labour, etc. I think this story would benefit greatly if the writer took some more time for development. The romance between the two characters could be more built up, as well as their emotional connection. That is also true for other events, such as Rebecca fainting in chapter four: the scene around the fainting could be described more, so what she was doing before and what happened after. There are lots of big events following each other up, but the developments and transitions are a little rocky, which makes the story very overwhelming to the reader. There is promise to this story, though. The writer is very, very good at descriptions to the point where it makes me jealous, and she knows how to bring emotions across. Regarding the technical aspects of writing, I noticed many spelling errors and an inconsistency of tenses (so switching up past and present tense while the sentences should both be in the same tense). However, I try not to get too bothered by such small details, so I didn't let it weigh my overall review of this story too much. So, overall, there is definitely some work to be done on this story, but I also believe this story can get so much better. I wish the author the best of luck with writing!"
